How BIILM collects, uses, shares and protects personal information.

This policy explains how BIILM handles personal information when you browse our website, contact us, request information, subscribe to updates or apply for a programme.

1. Who is responsible for your information

The British International Institute for Leadership & Management is the controller of personal information covered by this policy. You can contact us at admissions@biilm.org.uk or in London, UK.

2. Information we collect

  • Identity and contact details, such as your name, email address, telephone number and country.
  • Enquiry and application information, including programme interests, professional background, CV, qualifications and correspondence.
  • Newsletter preferences and records of consent or opt-out requests.
  • Technical information, such as IP address, browser type, device information, pages requested, timestamps and security logs.
  • Any other information you choose to provide when communicating with us.

3. How and why we use information

We use personal information only where we have an appropriate lawful basis. Depending on the activity, this may be consent, taking steps at your request before a contract, performing a contract, complying with a legal obligation, or our legitimate interests where these are not overridden by your rights.

  • Responding to enquiries and providing course or admissions information.
  • Assessing applications, administering admissions and delivering requested services.
  • Sending newsletters or marketing where permitted, with a clear way to unsubscribe.
  • Operating, securing, troubleshooting and improving the website and our services.
  • Maintaining records, preventing misuse and meeting legal, regulatory or safeguarding obligations.

4. Sharing information

We may share information with authorised staff, academic or admissions service providers, IT and hosting providers, professional advisers, payment providers where relevant, and public authorities where required by law. Providers may use information only under our instructions and appropriate contractual safeguards.

We do not sell personal information. If information is transferred outside the United Kingdom, we will use an applicable adequacy regulation, contractual safeguards or another lawful transfer mechanism as required.

5. Retention and security

We retain information only for as long as needed for the purpose collected, including admissions, academic, contractual, legal and dispute-resolution requirements. Retention periods vary by record type. Unsuccessful enquiry or application information is periodically reviewed and securely deleted or anonymised when no longer needed.

We use reasonable organisational and technical measures designed to protect information against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, alteration and disclosure. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

6. Your data protection rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you rights to:

  • be informed and obtain access to your personal information;
  • correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • request erasure or restriction of processing;
  • receive certain information in a portable format;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests and object at any time to direct marketing;
  • withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier lawful processing; and
  • request safeguards relating to qualifying automated decisions. BIILM does not currently make admissions decisions based solely on automated processing with legal or similarly significant effects.
Your right to object: you may object at any time to our use of your information for direct marketing. You may also object to processing based on legitimate interests, although we may continue where the law permits and compelling grounds apply.

7. Exercising your rights and complaints

To exercise a right, email admissions@biilm.org.uk. We may need to confirm your identity and clarify your request. Rights are not absolute and lawful exemptions may apply.

If you have concerns, please contact us first so we can investigate. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

8. Children, external sites and updates

Our website and executive programmes are not directed at children. Please do not provide a child’s information unless requested through an appropriate, authorised process.

Third-party websites have their own privacy practices and BIILM is not responsible for them. We may update this policy as our services or legal obligations change and will show the latest revision date above.
